Ling
Appearance: Often confused for shark at first glance, Ling (Cobia) are torpedo-shaped, dark brown in color, with white horizontal markings

Size: Ling are generally between 10 and 40 pounds, but a few larger fish are taken each year.

Where it's found: Ling can be found around most any nearshore structure, such as buoys and rigs, during the summer months. Along the Lower Texas Coast, juvenile ling also make their way into Gulf passes during the summer and fall.

What it eats: Ling eat pretty much any finfish or crustacean they happen across.

Top lures & baits: Natural baits such as finger mullet, Spanish sardines, cigar minnows and crabs work well. Jigs, swimbaits and a variety of plugs and flies can also tempt ling - especially when they're spotted cruising close to the surface.

How it tastes: Ling are excellent eating.
